Bobby Fischer was an American chess player and the eleventh World Chess Champion. Many people also consider him the greatest chess player in history. Fischer's talent for chess began to appear very early in his life. At the age of thirteen, he won one of his most famous matches, which was described as the match of the century, which astonished many analysts and players and remained a subject of interest for a long time.
Since he was fourteen years old, he has played in eight editions of the US Championship, winning all the tournaments, with a difference of not less than one point over his closest competitor. At the age of fifteen, Fisher became the youngest player to receive the title of Grandmaster and the youngest player to participate in the Candidates Tournament. At the age of twenty in the 1963-1964 season, Fisher won the US Championship with a score of 11/11, achieving the only perfect score in the history of the tournament.
In 1970, he continued to trounce those he faced in the Candidates Tournament, which qualified him to compete against the world champion Boris Spassky. Fischer became number one in the world in the International Chess Federation classification and remained at the top of the classification for fifty-four months. In 1972, he won the World Championship by defeating Spassky in the match held in Reykjavik, Iceland. The movie Pawn Sacrifice documented the epic competition between the players.
