An American actor, born in Illinois, United States. He graduated from the Western Military Academy in 1938, and joined the University of Missouri. He obtained a degree in theater from the Pasadena Playhouse in California, then obtained a master’s degree from New York University. He worked in regional theaters, such as the Phoenix Theatre and the Yale Repertory Theatre, and joined the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Connecticut. He was nominated for the 1978 Tony Award in the Best Actor category. Some of his credits include Superman (1978) and Friday the 13th (1980).
