An American actor, born on March 29, 1889, in Columbus, Ohio, USA. He played his first starring role in the 1921 film Sheltered Daughters. His notable films include In Old Arizona (1928), for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1930 at the 2nd Academy Awards, in addition to 42nd Street (1933), and Penthouse (1933). He died on May 7, 1951, in Beverly Hills, California, USA.
