An American rapper and actor, formerly known as Mos Def, born in Brooklyn, New York. He began his music career in 1994 with a group called Urban Thermo Dynamics, which he joined with his siblings, and their first album was titled "Manifest Destiny". He studied theater at New York University, and began his acting career at an early age, appearing in the television movie God Bless the Child (1988), followed by works such as The Cosby Mysteries (1994-1995) and Ghosts (1996). His other credits include 16 Blocks (2006) and The Woodsman (2004).
