Polish director, actor, painter and writer, born on May 5, 1938 in Łódź, Poland. His father was a member of the Polish resistance and was executed by the Nazis. After the war, his mother became the cultural attaché of the Polish embassy in Prague. He graduated from the Department of Ethnology, Literature and History of the University of Warsaw in 1959 in his early twenties, published several books of poems, short stories and plays, and attended the Łódź Film School. Jerzy has directed more than twenty films since 1960, most notably Essential Killing (2010), EO (2022), King, Queen, Knave (1972), Walkover (1965), and The Adventures of Gerard (1970). He received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2016 Venice Film Festival.
