An American producer of German descent, born in Karlsruhe, Germany. He is the son of opera singer Fritz Moritz Harlan and the brother of Christiane Kubrick, who married the late director Stanley Kubrick. He began working as a researcher into historical figures, then worked as an executive producer on a number of artistic works before he began presenting his directorial vision through a number of films. He is known for A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) and Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
