A Danish actor, born in 1964, in Gladsex, near Copenhagen. He is the older brother of well-known Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen. He entered the Royal Danish Army after high school and then studied biology at university before dropping out to become a itinerant artist roaming the streets, performing imitation arts, and playing balls. At the age of twenty-seven, he applied to study at the Danish National Theater and finished his studies in 1995. He is known for his role in the series Forbrydelsen, known globally as The Murder, and participated in the third season of the series Sherlock. He also participated in several Danish and non-Danish films. Besides Danish, he speaks fluent English, Swedish and German and is fluent in several dialects. He married Danish actress Anette Støvelbæk.
