An American writer, who was the fourth son of a businessman father. He published his first novel, "A Princess of Mars", in 1912, under a pseudonym to protect his status, while the first book from his novel series "Tarzan", which was published in 1912, achieved great success. He wrote more than eighty novels. He married Emma Hulbert in January 1900, and he had three children with her. He later separated from her and married the actress Florence Gilbert.
