An Indian actor, director and producer, born into an artistic family. He presented a number of critically and commercially successful films and established himself as one of the leading actors in Indian cinema. He started his acting career at the age of eight when he appeared with his uncle in the movie Yaadon Ki Baaraat in 1973. He started professionally in 1984 with the movie Holi. His first commercial success was in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, which was directed by his cousin Mansoor Khan in 1988. Khan starred in many important films, including Raakh (1989) and Raja Hindustani (1996), for which he won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 2001, he produced and starred in Lagaan, which received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. He made his directorial debut in Taare Zameen Par (2007), for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Director.
