An American actor, born in New York, USA. He studied at Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA. He first appeared on Broadway in the Martin Beck Theatre, while his first film was The Scoundrel (1935). Some of his credits include The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and The Romance of Rosy Ridge (1947). After moving to Ireland in 1963, he became a historian. He died in Dublin, Ireland.
