A British director and actor, born in London, United Kingdom. He attended Hackney Downs School in London, where he met the playwright Harold Pinter, and they had a strong friendship. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of London, followed by a postgraduate course in directing at the University of Bristol. He then went to the United States to obtain a postgraduate diploma from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. He also traveled to Canada and became a teacher in the Drama Department at the University of Alberta. Some of his credits include Superman III (1983) and The Lion in Winter (1968).
