An American visual artist, film director, and producer, born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1949 and then moved to New York City. He started working as a commercial artist, and his first known work came to light in August 1949, when he was asked to shoot an article for Glamor magazine. His best-known silkscreen paintings include Campbell's Soup Cans and Marilyn Diptych. His cinematic works include Chelsea Girls (1966), Trash (1971), and L'Amour (1973). With Paul Morrissey, he made several other films, including Frankenstein and Dracula, both produced in 1974.
