American actor born Charles Van Dell Johnson in Newport, Rhode Island on 25 August 1916. His most notable works include Murder in the Big House (1942), Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944), Battleground (1949), In the Good Old Summertime (1949), and Brigadoon (1954). He passed away on 12 December 2008.
