He is an Egyptian space scientist and director of the Space Research Center at Boston University in the United States. He was born on January 2, 1938 in Dakahlia. He received a BA of Science from Ain Shams University in 1958, after which he obtained a master's degree in geology from the Institute of Mineralogy in Missouri, USA. Throughout his long career, he held different positions and done numerous projects, including being the Director of the Center for Remote Sensing Applications at Boston University, USA, and working in exploration for oil in the Gulf of Suez in the exploration department of Pan American Company. He also taught geology in many universities, including the University of Missouri. Dr. Al Baz has hundreds of published scientific papers as well. He appeared in the documentary films Naked Science (2004), and Dark Side of the Moon (2002).
