An American animator, writer, producer, director, voice actor, and marine biology educator, born in Lawton, Oklahoma. He grew up in Anaheim, California, and became fascinated by the ocean as a child, and then he began to take an interest in art. He is best known for creating the series SpongeBob SquarePants, which was shown on Nickelodeon in 1999. He also taught marine biology at the Orange County Marine Institute, which inspired him to create the character SpongeBob. His credits include The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) and Rocko's Modern Life (1993).
