American television and film director and producer, born September 24, 1946 in Decatur, Indiana. After receiving his bachelor's degree from Indiana University Bloomington, he moved to Aspen, Colorado, where he worked as a ski instructor for several years and attended the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. His most notable works include: Hoosiers (1986), Rudy (1993), Mr. Church (2016), and Hill Street Blues (1981-1983), for which he won 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series.
