A Scottish actor, born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK. He served in the British Army after attending St Aloysius' College in Glasgow, Scotland. He then appeared in the play Armlet of Jade in 1947 in Dublin. He worked in a number of Shakespeare plays, in addition to a number of Broadway plays. Some of his credits include The Flight of the Phoenix (1965) and Braveheart (1995).
