American actress, born in Los Angeles, California, USA on September 3, 1932. She won an Emmy in 1981 and a Golden Globe in 1982 for the TV series Private Benjamin (1981-1983). She got married David John Lampson (1969-1974), with whom she had two children. She is the mother of basketball player and actor Patrick Brennan, and singer Sam Lampson. She was born to an Irish mother who worked in silent cinema and a father who works as a doctor. She studied at Georgetown University in Washington, and worked in theater before joining the American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York. She had a soprano voice, and gained wide fame in Broadway theaters, especially in musicals, singing and acting. She moved to Hollywood in the early sixties to work in films, then soon returned to the theater. She was hit by a drunk driver and was injured in her face and leg. She spent 3 years in treatment, and became addicted to painkillers and alcohol, but with determination she recovered from her injuries and addiction. She also survived breast cancer after having it removed in 1990. Among her most important works are: Murder by Death (1976), and Jeepers Creepers (2001). She passed away on July 28, 2013 in Burbank, California, USA, affected by bladder cancer.
