American actor and producer, born on March 23, 1929 in New York. He studied music at Juilliard School and worked as a pianist for jazz nightclubs. He is the uncle of actresses Emily Wagner, and actress Maggie Wagner. He made his debut in 1955. Among his most notable works are: The Cowboys (1972), On Golden Pond (1981), and The Rose (1979). He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director Film on the Golden Pond (1981). |
