British actress, born on November 24, 1913, in Ireland, United Kingdom. She won an Emmy in 1979, and was awarded a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. She was married to Edward Lindsay-Hogg (1936-1946), with whom she had a child, and then got married to Stuart Scheftek (1946-1994), with whom she had a child, and she remained with him until he died. She was raised at Convent School in London. She first appeared on stage in 1932 and made her debut in 1934 in English films before emigrating to New York. Among her most important works: Dark Victory (1939), Wuthering Heights (1939), and OSS (1946). She died on July 17, 2005 in Manhattan, New York City, of complications from Alzheimer's disease.
