A Swedish writer, born in Stockholm, Sweden. He studied chemistry at the Institute of Technology in Stockholm, then began studying at Uppsala University and wrote his first major play, "Master Olof," which was rejected by the Royal Theater at this time. Philosophers like Nietzsche and Schopenhauer, along with writers like Shakespeare and Goethe, influenced his writings. He attacked social hypocrisy and property in his first plays, such as the "Red Room" and "Master Olof." His most important plays include The Father (1887), Miss Julie (1888), and The Dance of Death (1900). August died on May 14, 1912, in Stockholm, Sweden.
