An American writer, producer, and director, born in Columbus, Georgia. His mother was the first female member of the Muscogee County Board of Education and founded what eventually became the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in Columbus. The Johnson Elementary School in Columbus was built and named after her in 1949. In 1915, he graduated from Columbus High School. He then became a reporter before working for the New York Herald Tribune and the New York Evening Post. He is known for How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and The Grapes of Wrath (1940). |
