American actress and singer, born in Stevens, Arkansas, USA, and famous for presenting recital music, and gained wide fame in France, Germany and Scandinavia. In 1994, she returned to the jazz style of music with Claude Nobs, founder of the annual Montreux Music Festival in Switzerland, and participated with artist Macnos Lindkern in presenting jazz music. Barbara Hendricks revealed her talent in acting by performing the role of Mimi in the film La Bohème in 1988, directed by Luigi Comencini, in addition to her performance in the television film Rucklarens väg in 1995. Barbara was a member of the jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 1999, which was chaired by David Cronenberg. She recorded more than eighty music discs for international record companies such as Sony and recorded between 1995 and 2000. In 1983 and 2004, she released more than fifty exclusive discs with EMI Classics, and in 2006 she founded her own company, Arte Verum.
