Brazilian novelist and short story writer. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1947. Before devoting himself to writing, he practiced directing, acting and working as a lyricist and journalist. He has written lyrics for many Brazilian singers such as Ellis Regina, Rita Lee Raul Seixas, in over sixty songs. His fascination with spiritual realms began in his hippie youth, when he toured the world in search of secret societies and the religions of the East. He published his first book in 1982, The Hell Archives, which was unsuccessful. Other works followed his fate, and in 1986 Coelho made a pilgrimage to the shrine of St. James in Compostela. Those that he later documented in his book "Pilgrimage". The following year, the book "The Alchemist" was published, which was almost abandoned by the publisher at first, but it quickly became one of the most important and best-selling Brazilian novels. Won first place between nine and twenty countries. And he received many accolades .
