She is an American author, born on February 19, 1952, in Oakland, California, USA. Her parents were Chinese immigrants. Her novel "The Joy Luck Club" was a finalist in the National Book Award and was on the New York Times bestseller list for many months. The novel was also adapted into a film. Tan wrote other novels as well, including "The Kitchen God's Wife", "The Hundred Secret Senses", "The Valley of Amazement", and "The Moon Lady". She currently lives with her husband, an American lawyer, in San Francisco.
