Glenn Ford was a Canadian-American actor, born on May 1, 1916, in Sainte-Christine-d'Auvergne, Portneuf, Canada, as Gwyllyn Samuel Newton Ford. When he was eight years old, his family moved to California. He was active in school drama productions and joined a traveling theater company. His feature film debut was Heaven with a Barbed Wire Fence (1939). Later on, he joined the army during WWII. He rose to prominence with his role in Gilda (1946). He is also known for The Big Heat (1953), Blackboard Jungle (1955), 3:10 to Yuma (1957), and Pocketful of Miracles (1961), for which he won a Golden Globe Award. He also received other awards and nominations. Ford passed away in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA, on August 30, 2006, at the age of 90. |
