Salma El-Sharkawy |
An Armenian actor, born on October 29, 1899, in Tiflis, Russian Empire [now Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia]. He pursued an acting career at the age of 19 and trained at the Moscow Art Theatre drama school. In 1920, he traveled to New York and worked on Broadway till the early 1930s, then headed to Hollywood. He is known for For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), Touch of Evil (1958), and The Trial (1962). He was nominated two times for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe Award. He appeared in over 150 productions. Akim Tamiroff passed away on September 17, 1972, in Palm Springs, California, USA, of cancer. |
