A British actress born in Hillhead, Glasgow, Scotland on September 30, 1921. She was educated at the independent Northumberland House School, Henleaze in Bristol, and at Rossholme School. She began her career in the theater, and made her film debut in Major Barbara (1941). She went on to appear in many films, then went on to act on Broadway. Kerr won and was nominated for many awards, including six Academy Award nominations, and an Academy Honorary Award in 1994. Her notable films include Black Narcissus (1947), From Here to Eternity (1953), The King and I (1956), and The Innocents (1961). She died on October 16, 2007 in England.
