An American actor, born in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 12, 1894. Billy Gilbert's father was a singer, his mother a singer and dancer. He left school to join a successful children's singing group at the age of 12, and worked as a singer in the vaudeville theater for a long time, and then worked on Broadway, not only as an actor, but also as a playwright, director and producer. He worked on radio, television and in film as well. Billy Gilbert's most important work includes: The Great Dictator (1940), His Girl Friday (1940), and Fun & Fancy Free (1947). In the 1960s, he retired in Hollywood until his death. He died in Hollywood, California, on September 23, 1971.
