British actor born in the suburb of Finchley, London. His father was a businessman. He studied at Ardingly College in Sussex, where he studied commerce and accounting. He did not join the college acting team due to his lack of talent. However, he turned to music and mastered playing the guitar and formed a jazz band. After graduating, he worked as an employee in a distribution company, then he worked as an employee in an insurance company, but failed in both jobs. He worked in nightclubs, then worked in the theater in Tivoli Hall, but the Second World War broke out. So, he joined the army in the signal corps and reached the rank of sergeant. He participated in entertainment programs for soldiers, which opened the way for him to work on the radio imitating singers and all sound effects with his abstract voice. Through his work in the theater, he discovered his talents and entered television, which qualified him to work in the cinema, in small roles. Among his works are It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), and How to Murder Your Wife (1965). He got married to the actress Ida Patlanski (1962-38), then he got married to Belinda Cunningham, with whom he had two children, and she remained with him until he died. At the beginning of the seventies he contracted Parkinson's disease, and had to sell everything he owned for treatment. His friends and some of his colleagues collected money for him but he ended up dying in a nursing home. He died on January 8, 1990, in England, from Parkinson's disease. |
