A Danish director, who made his debut as a writer in 1912 in the silent film The Parson's Widow. He directed his first film The President in 1919, and he also worked in film production in Denmark, Germany, and France. Among his most famous works are: the film The Parson's Widow (1920), the silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc, which was produced in France in 1928, the film Day of Wrath (1943), and the film Ordet (1955).
