American actress who was born on April 15, 1940 in Fremont, Nebraska, USA as Juliana Edith Sommars. She received a Golden Globe Award in 1970 for The Governor. She married actor Jack Donner (1960-1963), Robert Christopher (1964-1965), and producer Stuart Erwin Jr. (1971-1980), with whom she had a daughter. In 1984, she married John Karns.
Her most important works include The Pad and How to Use It (1966), Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977), and Matlock (1986). She won high school public speaking competitions, as well as the International Public Speaking Championship, which qualified her for a role on The Loretta Young Show, followed by Gunsmoke (1955). She became a member of the California Board of Governors.
