An American writer and actor, born in Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1869 and obtained citizenship in 1894. He is known for the films The General (1926) and Battling Butler (1926). He married actress Lillian Ashley and then Beatrice Lapla. He died on July 11, 1942, in Hollywood, California, USA, due to atherosclerosis.
