Following the war, his writing career took off, particularly as a result of the letters he addressed to the editor of the Atlanta Constitution under the pen name "Bill Arp," which landed him a columnist post there. He therefore started writing at the time about politics, the government, and current affairs. In addition, he authored several works that were made into motion pictures.
