He made the decision to become a...Read more painter at an early stage. Additionally, he developed an interest in European films, particularly the works of French directors like Jean-Luc Godard and Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman. He started studying at Walthamstow College of Art in 1962 and spent three years developing his mural painting skills before making his breakthrough as a writer and director of films. He is known for The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) and Nightwatching (2007).
