An American literary critic, author, and poet, born on January 19, 1809. He is considered and one of the pioneers of Gothic horror and Romanticism in American literature. He was famous for being among the first to write short stories in America. He lead a miserable life after his father abandoned the family and his mother died when he was little, leaving him to be raised by another family. He passed away on October 7, 1849, at the age of forty. His body was found dumped in the street wearing clothes that did not belong to him, and mystery still surrounds his death to this day as all the medical records related to his death have been lost. His most notable writings include "The Black Cat" and "The Raven". His credits include The Black Cat (1934) and The Murders in the Rue Morgue (1986).
