American actor, born in New York City, New York, USA on March 21, 1930. He received an Obie Award in 1961, an Emmy Award in 1983, and an ACE Award in 1985. He lived all his life single and never married. He was born to an Italian father who worked as a shoemaker, and he worked as a shoe shiner with his father as a child. He became interested in acting at a young age. At the age of 17, he toured with a children's theater group for 3 years, studied acting at HB Studio in New York City, and made his Broadway debut in Hotel Paradiso in 1957. He then performed the Off-Broadway's The Moon in Yellow River by Denis Johnston, for which he won an Obie Award. He is known for Murder by Death (1976), Only When I Laugh (1981), and Man of La Mancha (1972). He died on February 25, 1987 in New York City, New York, USA (heart attack).
