An Indian author, born in Jaunpur, in the North-Western Provinces of India. He passed the Matriculation Examination in 1915 and gained admission to Vidyasagar College, Calcutta, India. While studying there, he published his first work, Jaubansmriti, a collection of poems, at the age of twenty. In 1919, he studied law in Patna and then devoted his time to writing. He participated in Bengali cinema as well as Bollywood, presenting the character of the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi, and wrote various forms of prose, novels, short stories, plays, and films.
