Isabel Sanford was born in New York City, New York, USA, on August 29, 1917, as Eloise Gwendolyn Sanford. She won an Emmy in 1981 and received a star on the Walk of Fame in 2004 for her television work. She married William Edward Richmond (1935-1960), had three children, and remained with him until his death. Among her most important works are Guess's Coming to Dinner (1967), Lady Sings the Blues (1972), The Jeffersons (1975), and Love at First Bite (1979).
Isabel was a Broadway actress for 30 years before moving to Hollywood to work in film and on television. She also participated in many commercials. Isabel was born in Harlem in New York. At the age of 27, she joined the American Negro Theater, after which she joined Broadway theaters. In 1960, she moved to Los Angeles to work in film and on television, and in 1975, she participated in the television series The Jeffersons, which aired for 11 years, and for her role she won an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a comedy series, to be the first African American actress to win this award in 1981. Isabel Sanford passed away on July 9, 2004, in Los Angeles, California, of pneumonia and heart failure.
