British author, born in Beaton, Gloucestershire, England. He was raised in the West Country and studied at Beaudesert Park School and then Marlborough College. He later became a soldier in World War II and joined the Grenadier Guards. He was a farmer before becoming a teacher at Farmborough Primary School and an author. In 1978, he published his first book, The Fox Busters. He was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2010 New Year Honours. He died in Somerset, England.
