She was born to a Hindu Brahmin father, and a famous mother who was a dancer, singer, actress, composer and director. She is the sister of the famous Bollywood actors Anwar...Read more Hussain and Akhtar Hussain. She formed a romantic duet in films with famous actor Raj Kapoor. She got married to Indian actor, producer and director Sunil Dutt (1958-1981) and had three children. She won the Filmfare Award and the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Award for Best Actress for Mother India (1957). She's known for Awaara (1951), Shree 420 (1955), and Chori Chori (1956). She died on May 3, 1981 in Bombay, India, of pancreatic cancer.
