An Islamic preacher, who is the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies for Girls at Al-Azhar University, Port Said Branch. She is also a professor of Islamic law at the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Al-Azhar University and supervisor of Islamic studies at the Faculty of Medicine for Girls. She is the daughter of the artist Muhammad Al-Kahlawy, the pioneer of religious songs and known as “The Praiser of the Messenger”. She was born in the Zamalek district of Cairo, as the eldest daughter of five daughters and two sons. Al-Kahlawy initially joined a French school, then moved to the National School until she finished her secondary education. She devoted herself to studying Islamic sciences at the strong desire of her father until she obtained a BA in Comparative Jurisprudence in 1969 from the Faculty of Islamic Studies, where she was appointed as a teaching assistant. She then obtained a master’s degree and a doctorate in jurisprudence as well in 1974 and 1980, respectively. Dr. Abla is the widow of Major Engineer Yassin Bassiouni, one of the heroes of the October War. Abla was able to break the dominance of men on the platforms of preaching and turned to addressing the masses via satellite channels and the press, thus establishing a new style that relies on presenting information in a modern framework, and is particularly concerned with women’s affairs, as she is always keen in her religious talks and satellite programs to warn Muslim women against being deceived by Western values and ideas. Based on her keenness for charitable and humanitarian work, she also headed the Al-Baqiyat Al-Salihat Association, which cares for mothers and families. In addition to religious advocacy and councils of science and education, Dr. Abla held several academic positions, as she was the head of the Department of Islamic Studies at the College of Education in Mecca. She was also the head of the external extracurricular activities at the Ministry of Endowments from 1979 to 1989, in addition to assuming the duties of the official of external relations at the Ministry of Endowments during the period (1970-1973), and a lecturer in Islamic economics at the College of Education in Riyadh in 1974.
