American actress, born in Buffalo, New York, on October 13, 1891, as Irene Luther. Her father lost his fortune at a young age and the family moved to California. She completed her education and worked in the real estate brokerage, before considering working as an actress in silent cinema. She got married four times. She received two stars on the Walk of Fame in 1960 for her work on television and radio. Among her notable works: Lady Windermere's Fan (1925), The Champ (1931), and Angel and the Badman (1947). In 1950, her fourth marriage was to a businessman and she left everything and retired quietly. She died on April 22, 1988 in Hope Ranch, California, of heart failure.
