• German actor born Hans Messemer in Dillingen, Bavaria, Germany on 17 May 1924. He has won several awards including a FAS in 1957 and a VFS in 1959. At the age of 18, Hans enlisted...Read more in the Nazi army in 1942 and was sent to the Stalingrad Front in the Soviet Union as punishment for not obeying orders. He was captured there, but he managed to escape in 1945. After the war, he worked as a waiter, then as an accountant in a store, before acting. He often played military or villainous roles. His notable works include The Devil Strikes at Night (1957), General Della Rovere (1959), The Great Escape (1963), and The Odessa File (1974). He married four times and had two children. He died on 2 November 1991 in Aachen, Germany.
