American actor, born on September 21, 1918, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, as Arlington Rand Brooks Jr. Among his notable works are Gone with the Wind (1939), Dramatic School (1938), and Borrowed Trouble (1948). He received the Golden Boot Award in 1922. He was married to Lois Laurel, daughter of comedian Stan Laurel, and had two children with her before marrying Herminia Hodges. Brooks served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1966, Rand Brooks started Professional Ambulance Service in Glendale, California, with two used ambulances. By 1977, his company had become the largest private ambulance 9-1-1 paramedic provider. During his ownership, the company received dozens of awards and commendations. He retired and lived at his ranch with his second wife, Hermine, until he passed away on September 1, 2003 in Santa Ynez, California, USA from cancer. |
