A French writer, born in Paris, France. He descended from a family of judges and was educated by the Lycée Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, a private Catholic school in Paris. During World War II, he took refuge in the family château in Auvergne, a period that later influenced his historical novels, and after the war, he studied history at the Sorbonne. He first wrote detective novels in 1960, then devoted himself largely to historical fiction, including Sophie ou les Galanteries in 1976. He continued to write crime novels, including Le Procès Filippi (1981), La Perte de Vue (1986), and Arnaques (2006). He died on May 11, 2019, in Garlin, France.
