An American actor, born in Sacramento, California, USA, as Robert Taylor Bien. He was a matinee idol during the silent film era, and he also prospered after the introduction of sound into cinema. He had a rich, resonant voice, and he sang in his church choir and initially prepared for an operatic career. He studied opera singing in Paris. He gave up singing for acting after being hired as an understudy in the Broadway play Glad of It in 1903, then in Anna Karenina (1907), and in the musical operetta The Kiss Waltz (1911). He also played romantic roles in cinematic films. He formed his own production company, Robert Warwick Film Corp, which produced four films. He temporarily left Hollywood in 1917 to serve as an infantry captain in WWI, and when he returned, he continued acting on Broadway and in the movies. He is known for In a Lonely Place (1950), Sullivan's Travels (1941), and The Awful Truth (1937). He was married to Arline Peck, with whom he had his daughter Rosalind, Josephine Whittell, and Stella Larrimore, with whom he had a daughter named Betsey. He passed away on June 6, 1964, in West Los Angeles, California, USA.
