American actress, born on January 23, 1964, in Santa Monica, California, USA. She was the daughter of actress Jayne Mansfield and her father was the Hungarian-born former Mr. Universe, Mickey Hargitay. After her parents divorced, she lived with her mother until she passed away in a car accident when Mariska was three-and-a-half years old and was left with a zigzag scar on one side of her head. She then moved to live with her father and stepmother, where she had a normal childhood and upbringing. She finished high school at Marymont School, and in the same year she was awarded the title of Miss Beverly Hills State. Hargitay then attended UCLA to study acting. She appeared in musical videos before moving towards cinema and acting in minor roles. She started her professional acting career in 1986, when she played an important role in Downtown (1986-1987). She is known for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit ( 1999-2022), Lake Placid (1999), and Leaving Las Vegas (1995).
