She was an American actress, born on October 20, 1907 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She was the granddaughter of the actor Alfred Davis. After attending Finch College, she studied at the Theatre Guild and then went to Hollywood. She started her acting career on Broadway in 1927 and appeared in many plays. She then moved to cinema productions, and her debut film was Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932). In 1942, she presented several radio programs and series, and she became one of the highest-paid women in TV. She is known for The Thrill of It All (1963), One, Two, Three (1961), and All My Sons (1948). She received 2 Stars on the Walk of Fame in 1960 for her work in TV and radio, and she was nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Awards in 1956 and 1957. She was married to Neil Francis Agnew before marrying the producer and director Martin Gabel, with whom she had a child and stayed with him till he died. Arlene retired from show business and lived comfortably. She was known for the heart-shaped diamond necklace, which was given to her by her husband, Martin Gabel. In 1983, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and her son admitted her to a nursing home until her death on May 31, 2001 in San Francisco, California, USA, affected by Alzheimer's and cancer.
