A Japanese author, born in Tokyo, Japan. He studied literature at the University of Lyon in France and obtained a degree in French, after which he returned to Japan and became one of the most prominent names in Japanese literature. He also won many literary awards in Japan, such as the Akutagawa Prize and the Tanizaki Prize. He is known for a number of novels and books, such as “Volcano” (1959) and “The Woman I Abandoned” (1964). His credits include Silence (2016).
